AFA Foundation Annual Highlights

2008

  • Read the 2008 AFA Foundation Annual Report
  • Raised nearly $110,000 and awarded over $25,000 in scholarships and grants.
  • Endowments quadrupled with gift commitments from:
    • Gamma Phi Beta, in honor of Linda Wardhammar
    • Sigma Sigma Sigma
    • Gamma Sigma Alpha, in honor of Beth Saul
  • Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and Foundation gave our largest pledge to date of $50,000 over ten years for the Opening Session at the Annual Meeting.
  • The 2008 Silent Auction raised over $35,000 with 199 items donated by Professional, Affiliate,and Associate members and organizations.

2007

  • Read the 2007 AFA Foundation Annual Report
  • Grants were awarded to the Association of Fraternity Advisors for:
    • 2007 Annual Meeting General Session
    • 2007 Annual Meeting Graduate Training Track
    • 2007 National Hazing Prevention Week materials
    • First 90 Days Program
  • $4,860 in Annual Meeting registration scholarships was awarded to 19 AFA members.
  • The 2007 Silent Auction raised over $36,000 with over 160 items donated by Professional, Affiliate, and Associate members and organizations.
  • The Foundation’s first endowed scholarship, for an Annual Meeting registration, was given by CAMPUSPEAK.
  • 19 individuals, 11 inter/national organizations, and 2 AFA Associate Members were inducted into one of the three lifetime giving societies during the 2007 Annual Meeting.

2006

  • Read the 2006 AFA Foundation Annual Report
  • $12,725 was granted to the Association of Fraternity Advisors for:
    • General Session at the 2006 Annual Meeting - $5,000
    • Graduate Training Track - $3,500
    • 2007 National Hazing Prevention Week materials - $2,200
    • First 90 Days Program - $2,025
  • Over $4000 in Annual Meeting registration scholarships was awarded to 20 AFA members.
  • The “$30 for 30” campaign raised $3,492.50, including the challenge donation from Capstone Development, for the New Orleans chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
  • The 2006 Silent Auction raised over $25,000 with over 150 items donated by 89 members.
  • AFA Foundation dollars impacted over 1,300 AFA members in 2006.
  • 12 individuals, 4 inter/national organizations, and 1 AFA Associate Member were inducted into one of the three lifetime giving societies during the 2006 Annual Meeting

2005

  • Read the 2005 AFA Foundation Annual Report
  • Rick Barnes 2005 Interfraternity Institute (IFI) Scholarships were given to Megan Johnson, Darthmouth College, and Kara Miller, University of Miami.
  • $1485 was granted for three registration scholarships to the ACPA/AFA Mid-Level Management Institute.
  • Over $5000 in Annual Meeting registration scholarships was awarded to 26 AFA members.
  • $5000 was granted to the Association of Fraternity Advisors for the General Session at the 2005 Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia
  • $2500 was granted to the Association to support the 2005 Graduate Training Track. A donation from Rho Lambda National Honorary made this possible.
  • $1000 was granted to Dr. Gregory Parks in support of his 2nd volume of research on African-American fraternities and sororities.
  • $2500 was provided to the Association, via a previously restricted gift to the Foundation, in support of AFA's strategic planning process.

2004

  • Rick Barnes 2004 Interfraternity Institute (IFI) Scholarship awarded to Tracie Massey, Michigan State University
  • $1350 was granted for three registration scholarships to the ACPA/AFA Mid-Level Management Institute
  • $5000 grant made to the Association of the Fraternity Advisors for the General Session at the 2004 Annual Meeting in Hollywood, CA
  • $2500 grant made for the Graduate Training Track at the 2004 Annual Meeting; Rho Lambda’s generous gift to the Foundation has been earmarked for this grant
  • $500 funding to assist in promoting the National Hazing Symposium held in November 2004 at Purdue University in conjunction with the Indiana Greek Leadership Conference (IGLC); the event, coordinated by Campuspeak, is an outcome of AFA’s Hazing Think Tank

2003

  • Rick Barnes Interfraternity Institute (IFI) Scholarship awarded to Natalie Maio, St. John’s University
  • Jennifer Jones-Hall Annual Meeting Scholarship was awarded to Michelle Espino, doctoral student at the University of Arizona
  • $1350 was granted for three registration scholarships for the ACPA/AFA Mid-Level Management Institute were awarded
  • AFA members and friends continued to support the AFA Foundation at many different levels. This year we recognized donors in the 1976 Society, Leadership Circle, John Mohr Society, Williamsburg Society and Associate Member, College/University and Interfraternal Donors.   • $1500 grant made to the Graduate Training Track at the 2003 Annual Meeting
  • $5000 grant made to the Association of the Fraternity Advisors for the Ethics in Everyday Life General Session presented by Dr. Bill Grace at the Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas
  • $21,181.00 was raised during the 2003 Silent Auction at the AFA Annual Meeting in San Antonio, TX
  • $1923.45 was raised during through the “Because you Believe” sticker campaign at the Annual Meeting

2002

  • 1500 grant made to the Mid-American Greek Council Association to support the Professional Luncheon during the 2003 annual conference
  • $4000 grant made to the Association of Fraternity Advisors for the Opening Session at the NIC/AFA Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio
  • Rick Barnes Interfraternity Institute (IFI) Scholarship awarded to Kathleen Holmes, University of Puget Sound
  • $17,434.75 was raised during the 2002 Silent Auction at the NIC/AFA Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio
  • $3300 was raised through the "Because you Believe" sticker campaign at the NIC/AFA Annual Meeting in Columbus, Ohio

2001

  • $2,000 grant made to Gamma Sigma Alpha in support of the Academic Research Initiative in conjunction with Bowling Green State University.

  • $400 grant made to Dr. David Ortiz, Oklahoma State University, for his research project, "A Case Study of Multicultural Greek Organizations."
  • $4,000 grant made to the Association of Fraternity Advisors for the "Building Partnerships" program at the 2001 Annual Meeting.
  • 1st Rick Barnes Interfraternity Institute (IFI) Scholarship awarded to Rebecca Wald, University of New Mexico.
  • $11,484.52 raised during the 2001 Silent Auction at the Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
  • New logo created for the AFA Foundation in conjunction with the implementation of the Foundation's first professional direct mail campaign.
