First 90 Days

The First 90 Days program helps new fraternity/sorority professionals acclimate to one of the most unique roles in higher education. Through this 14-week intensive online program, participants will build their networks, learn how to put their expertise into practice, and better understand the scope of their positions.

During the program, participants will interact with a variety of colleagues – in their cohort and the fraternity/sorority profession broadly – to build a network of expertise that they can draw upon throughout their career. Through interactive virtual sessions, participants will learn and practice utilizing frameworks to address challenges in their role and integrate professional philosophy into daily practice as a fraternity/sorority professional. Through their participation in this program, professionals will be able to more clearly identify their continued professional development needs and aspirations beyond the program.

The First 90 Days is not necessarily a “crash course” in fraternity/sorority life. Instead, the program aims to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to think through situations they will experience in their day-to-day work as a fraternity/sorority professional.

Who should participate in the First 90 Days?

The First 90 Days is designed for professionals who are in their first, full-time position in the fraternity/sorority industry. The program is best suited for new fraternity/sorority professionals in their first year of practice, but can also be beneficial for any professionals who are new to the fraternity/sorority profession. The First 90 Days Program will benefit professionals who are eager to improve their skills and expand their professional network.

Participant Expectations

  • Be (digitally) present: To get the most out of the First 90 Days program, we invite you to be present and fully participate in the program. We have found that participants who are actively engaged in sessions get more out of the experience. Consider closing your email and all those browser tabs (we see you!) so you can be fully present. First 90 Days only works if you do!
  • Engage with the content: The First 90 Days program is intended to be a cohort experience. This means that there will be a variety of opportunities for you to engage with the content and discuss with fellow participants using Zoom features like chat, breakout rooms, and more. We ask that you come to live weekly sessions ready to engage with the content and make connections with fellow participants.
  • Come prepared: As part of the First 90 Days program, there will be instances where participants are asked to complete work outside of live, weekly sessions. This work is intended to complement your learning and build toward your final project. To ensure conversation is purposeful, ensure that you take time and come prepared to sessions.
  • Keep an open mind: Your fellow First 90 Days cohort members will come from a variety of backgrounds and professional experiences – and everyone’s familiarity with best practices and competencies in fraternity/sorority life is unique. Keep an open mind and find opportunities where you can learn from – or support – other participants.
  • Own your experience: This is YOUR professional development and we invite you to take advantage of all the opportunities in the program. Treat this as YOUR dedicated time and do your best to set clear boundaries with your students and colleagues who may need you while you are in a session. If you need a letter of support to assist you in adjusting your schedule, please contact Shelby Flores Hill at shelby@afa1976.org.
