Event Details

This session explores Social Event Success Plans (SESPs) as restorative, education-based alternatives to social suspension. Developed through campus and national organization collaboration, SESPs offer a phased framework that supports chapters in rebuilding trust, strengthening accountability, and safely returning to hosting events with alcohol. Attendees will gain practical tools to develop their own success plans, centered on partnership and long-term culture change. This innovative approach shifts the focus from punitive responses to purposeful engagement, meeting students where they are and guiding them toward sustainable success. Chapter outcome data from a yearlong pilot of SESPs at an SEC university will be provided.

As a result of attending this program, attendees will…

  • Identify the core components of a Social Event Success Plan (SESP) and how they align with restorative justice principles and student development theory.
  • Analyze strategies for effective collaboration between campus professionals and national organization partners in creating and implementing SESPs.
  • Evaluate how SESPs can serve as an alternative to social suspension by fostering trust, accountability, and safer chapter events.
