Event Details

Join Greek University for a discussion about new member education and hazing in fraternities and sororities. In this session, Dr. Michael R. Ayalon and Dr. Jason Meriwether will share data and key takeaways from a phenomenological study that investigated the beliefs and attitudes of student affairs professionals who advise active fraternity and sorority members on college campuses. The study focused on their understanding of hazing, as well as their identification of intervention strategies to enhance student safety.

As a result of attending this program, attendees will:

  • Identify barriers that student affairs professionals and students face in recognizing and intervening in hazing situations.
  • Evaluate effective intervention strategies shared by participants in the study and consider how they can be adapted and implemented on their own campuses to enhance student safety.
  • Develop a campus-specific action plan to strengthen hazing prevention efforts through clearer definitions, education, reporting processes, and collaborative policy enforcement.

Presenter(s)
Dr. Michael R. Ayalon | CEO, Greek University
Dr. Jason L. Meriweather | VP for Enrollment Management and Marketing, Campbellsville University
