‘Guidelines & Guardrails’ for Interfraternity Council Chapter Relationships

A Collaborative Effort Between AFA, ASCA, and the NIC

AFA, ASCA, and the NIC are proud to announce the release of “Guidelines & Guardrails for Interfraternity Council Chapter Relationships.” Developed in partnership amongst the three partner associations, this shared resource reflects efforts to build consensus around effective practice between campus student affairs leaders and interfraternity council fraternity leaders. This ‘Guidelines & Guardrails’ resource reflects the first iteration of consensus recommendations designed to drive leading practice in these four areas:

  • Collaborative Partner Investigations for Organizational Conduct Issues
  • Interim Action
  • Chapter Sanctioning and Suspension
  • Return Agreements

These recommendations are designed to enhance current practice for how campus professionals (conduct professionals, FSL professionals, and those who lead and support those areas) and headquarters professionals (professionals and volunteers working with chapter behavior and chapter accountability) interact and partner to best provide support and accountability for interfraternity council chapters on their respective campuses.

Thanks to the following professionals who worked in partnership to craft these recommendations:

  • Kevin W. Bailey, Ph.D., University of North Carolina at Charlotte
  • Tess Barker, J.D., Ph.D., Association for Student Conduct Administration
  • Jason T. Bergeron, Ph.D., Association of Fraternity/Sorority Advisors
  • Michael Church, Sigma Chi
  • Frank Cuevas, Ed.D., University of Tennessee, Knoxville
  • Angela King Taylor, Ed.D., University of Missouri
  • Tanner Marcantel, Theta Xi
  • Phil Rodriguez, Delta Sigma Phi
  • Will Foran, North-American Interfraternity Conference
