Letter from the Guest Editors

On behalf of the Association of Student Conduct Administrators (ASCA), we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve as guest editors for this Perspectives issue.  The collaboration between ASCA and AFA reflects our shared commitment to advocate for our members, provide professional development opportunities, and foster professional communities.  

As we delve into the topics included in this issue, we recognize that the work performed by fraternity and sorority life and student conduct professionals often intersects. This collaboration serves to underscore the significance of our partnerships and opens new pathways for enhancing our effectiveness within these key areas.  

We hope that readers find value in the insights shared and that the discussions inspire innovative practices that benefit our communities. Furthermore, we encourage you to actively engage with the content, contribute to the ongoing conversation, and explore new avenues for collaboration between our fields.

About the Editors

Kyle McCoil, M.A., CSAEd, CSAEd-SC, is the Assistant Dean of Students and Dean of Sophomores at Washington and Lee University, where he serves as the primary resource for second-year students and all new transfer students, and as the primary advisor to the Interfraternity Council. McCoil is an active member of ASCA and currently serves as a Co-Chair for the Fraternity and Sorority Life Community of Practice. Kyle earned his bachelor’s degree in public health from the University of South Carolina and his master’s degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Michigan. He is currently working on his dissertation, which examines the relationship between emotional intelligence and perceptions of hazing severity among college men involved in varsity athletics and fraternities.

Dr. Maleta WilsonDr. Maleta Wilson, also known as “Doc,” is the chief conduct administrator at California State University, Chico. A retired law enforcement officer and lifelong advocate for equity and equality, Wilson has extensive experience in Student Affairs, including working in fraternity and sorority affairs, Basic Needs, Title IX coordination, and Student Conduct Administration. Wilson holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Bethune-Cookman University, a master’s degree in transformative leadership from Central Michigan University, and a doctorate in Organizational Change and Leadership from the University of Southern California. She is is a Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and a mother to adult daughters and Nana to her six year old grand-daughter.
