No, the Association is committed to recognizing the contributions of every stakeholder in our industry, and uplifting new and exciting work as a model for other professionals.
Award nominations are reviewed by members of the Awards and Recognition Committee, across a multi-stage review process. Until the final stages of this process, identifying information is removed from nominations to ensure all applications are reviewed equitably.
A nomination may come from anyone – you just need to create an F/S Central account and submit your application by the deadline.
Awards do not require membership! Awards are open to non-members—especially those recognizing senior administrators, partners, collaborators, or outstanding contributors to the field at large.
Receptions are completely optional. Award winners are celebrated by the Association regardless, and there’s no requirement to host or fund any event.
Award recipients are selected through a rigorous and impartial evaluation process based on the quality and impact of their work—not on tenure, popularity, or personal connections. All nominations are reviewed by a diverse panel of reviewers using standardized criteria to ensure fairness and objectivity.
There is no requirement or expectation to donate to AFA. Awards recognize contributions in the field – not contributions of money. The AFA Foundation hosts ‘In Honor Of’ giving campaigns to offer supporters a meaningful way to celebrate the winners while investing in the fraternity/sorority profession.
Select individual award nominations allow the nominator to submit letters of support to supplement their nomination. A list of FAQs about letters of support can be found here.
