Awards and Recognition

Each year, AFA recognizes outstanding contributions by our members and colleagues for individual achievement, outstanding programming, and for work published across AFA’s publications. All awards are presented throughout the AFA Annual Meeting, including the Toast to Award Winners and Celebration Banquet.

Nominations

2024 award nominations are now closed.
2025 award nomination information will be shared here as it is available.

Please review these 10 Tips for an Outstanding Nomination as you prepare to submit a nomination. This year’s submission form allows you to begin a nomination and go back to it later, so you do not need to complete the nomination submission all at once.

Individual Award Nominations

Nominators can use the submission form to nominate for the following Individual Awards:

  • Dr. Kent L. Gardner Award
  • Jack L. Anson Award
  • Dr. Robert H. Shaffer Award
  • Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service Awards
  • Gayle Webb New Professional Award
  • Dissertation of the Year Award, Presented by Dyad Strategies

Forms for the Shelley Sutherland Outstanding Volunteer Award and Amy Vojta Outstanding AFA Foundation Volunteer Award will be available at a later date.

Letters of Support

Within the nomination submission form, nominators will have the opportunity to upload letters of support for Dr. Kent Gardner, Jack L. Anson, Robert H. Schaffer, Sue Kraft Fussell Distinguished Service, and Gayle Webb New Professional Award nominations.

Only three (3) letters of support can be uploaded for each nominee. Strong letters of support go beyond statements about personal relationships and address the nominee’s achievement of the award’s criteria.

Elevation in Practice Award Nominations

Focusing on innovation, impact and inclusion, the newly reimagined programming awards focus less on traditional programming and more on originality towards advancements of the modern fraternal movement. The Elevation in Practice Awards highlight up to three winners in the three categories, across all membership types within AFA. Full descriptions and criteria for each of the Elevation in Practice Awards can be found here.
